We recently spoke with Lance Giles who leads the team that won the 2020 ITAM Excellence Award for ‘Implementation, Team or Project of the Year’. Lance spoke with us for the Change Makers podcast series, which features ITAM leaders who share their stories and top tips to help elevate the ITAM profession and give inspiration to all of us.
I think we can all agree that we need more professionals working in ITAM. If we increase ITAM’s profile, which is one of the Forum’s key objectives, this will attract more people into our profession. With more people working in ITAM, more business value will be delivered by ITAM practices. This in turn, will raise ITAM’s profile.
We recently spoke with Justine McSweeney who is the IT Asset Manager at Volkswagen Financial Services (UK). She is also the 2020 ITAM Excellence Awards ‘Rising Star’ winner. Justine kindly participated in the Change Makers podcast series. She shares her experiences in the world of ITAM and provides advice and inspiration to others in the early stages of their ITAM careers.
The ITAM Forum is overseen by a Board of Trustees. These are professionals from the world of ITAM and associated industries. They perform a governance role and help to develop initiatives to push forward the ITAM industry.
The ITAM Forum recently celebrated its first anniversary, and we’re thrilled to have achieved so much during our first year with help from the global ITAM community. It never ceases to amaze me how passionate and enthusiastic ITAM professionals are about our profession.
In September 2020, the voluntary group that creates the 19770 family of standards asked the ITAM community for feedback as it began developing guidance for how to implement ITAM. The group specifically wanted to know what guidance the world-wide ITAM community thought was needed. It was specifically interested in hearing from those not involved with ITAM standards. Thank you to everyone who provided suggestions.

Hernán brings to the Forum close to 10 years of community and marketing experience. Originally from Spain, Hernán started his career interning with Pontevedra Football Club and Cadena COPE, one of Spain’s biggest radio stations. He joins the ITAM Forum from a global customer agency, where he was a Community Insights Manager.

There were two driving forces behind the formation of the ITAM Forum. The first was to elevate the position of ITAM by sharing knowledge and best practices that focus on business value and aid to grow the profession. The second was to create – and be a caretaker of – the first, globally-recognised, ISO 19770 standard certification program so organisations can demonstrate the quality of their ITAM practices.
