This blog is from Martin Thompson, the founder of the ITAM Forum.

At the end of March 2023 in Florida, the ITAM Forum held the first ISO/IEC 19770-1 Practitioner course.

This course is for anyone wanting to take either their own organization or their customer organization on a journey towards ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification. We developed this course in partnership with the BC Academy, the training arm of Brand Compliance (the auditor for the 19770-1 certification scheme).

During the two days, we covered:

  • navigating the audit
  • understanding the key concepts behind management systems
  • fundamental building blocks of the ISO standard
  • how to understand the documentation, systems and processes required to meet certification
  • building the business case – and a roadmap – for certification
  • what happens when the auditor comes on site (and what to expect)

Yorick Heijink, the lead auditor at Brand Compliance for the ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification scheme, and I delivered the course. It was great to partner with Yorick and to tap into his considerable experience with auditing management systems for ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 9000 and his experience so far with ISO/IEC 19770-1.

A mixture of end-user customers, consultants and partners attended. Each passed the exam at the end, gaining an ISO/IEC 19770-1 Practitioner certificate. It was an interactive group, and we gained a NPS score of 91.7 as well as receive some great feedback on how to further enhance the course material.

We will be releasing new course dates throughout 2023 and in different countries around the world. If you’d like to learn more about this courses, please contact us. We will let you know about course dates as they are announced.
