ITAM Data – The IT Manager’s Superpower

As organisations become more data-driven, the importance of reliable, high-quality information continues to grow — particularly within ITAM. When data about the technology estate can’t be trusted or aligned, even well-established IT practices find it difficult to deliver consistent value.

We’ll dive into how ITAM’s relationship with data quality is evolving, and whether ITAM is best placed to take on the role of trusted data steward across the organisation. Our panellists will discuss who benefits most from accurate IT asset data, how ITAM should prioritise its focus, and what effective collaboration with key stakeholders looks like in the real world.

Why attend?:

  • The role of ITAM in data quality: Examine whether ITAM’s future lies in becoming a data quality shepherd and what that responsibility entails.
  • Understanding stakeholder impact: Identify which IT and business stakeholders gain the most value from accurate, reliable estate data.
  • Prioritisation strategies: Learn how ITAM teams can decide where to focus their data quality efforts for maximum organisational impact.
  • Collaboration in action: Discover what effective prioritisation and partnership with key stakeholders actually looks like day-to-day.
  • Stronger outcomes through better data: See how improved data quality enables better decision-making, reduces risk, and elevates ITAM’s strategic value.

Transforming ITAM in 2026 – How to shift and pivot to continue delivering value

As organisations navigate rapid technological change, the role of ITAM is shifting. Traditional best practices are being challenged by cloud, IoT, AI, and the rise of citizen engineering — and ITAM must evolve to stay relevant and deliver strategic value.

In this panel session, we’ll unpack how the discipline can adapt by moving from centralised, compliance-driven governance to a more collaborative, insight-rich model that embraces modern technology and distributed ownership.

What you’ll gain:

  • A clearer future for ITAM: Understand how emerging technologies are reshaping expectations and redefining ITAM’s place in the organisation.
  • Modern governance approaches: Explore the shift from traditional oversight to holistic management that encourages information sharing and cross-team alignment.
  • Practical transformation strategies: Learn how to modernise ITAM practices to support distributed technology management without losing control or visibility.
  • Tools to optimise value and reduce risk: Gain approaches that help enhance user experiences, strengthen risk mitigation, and increase the business value ITAM provides.
  • A renewed strategic role: See how an evolved ITAM function can better meet organisational needs while keeping pace with today’s dynamic technology landscape.

Finalising a Move to the Linux Foundation

December 2, 2025

Last month I wrote about the opportunity the ITAM Forum has to join the Linux Foundation as a stand-alone, self-funded project. I’m pleased to report that during October 2025, the ITAM Forum’s Trustee Board unanimously approved this move, which ITAM Forum members also support. We’re now working to finalise this move from the 1st February 2026 onwards.

About the Linux Foundation

Created in 2007, the Linux Foundation is a vendor-neutral ‘home’ for open-source projects and communities, providing back office, shared services to help projects grow. Examples include the FinOps Foundation, OpenChain, and SPDX. The Foundation is designed for neutral, cross-industry collaboration with projects retaining their own governance. It also offers a recognised pathway to international standards through the Joint Development Foundation.

This is an exciting opportunity for us. During 2020, we began – as a spin-out of ISO 19770 (the ISO ITAM Family of Standards) – and built the ITAM From from the ground up. It’s been a brilliant journey, and we’re excited about our next chapter. Our mission – to promote the business practice of IT Asset Management – stays the same, supported by operational scale that will enable us to deliver more and faster. Besides our mission, we’ll keep our website, logo, branding, events, and our vibrant member community and members’ portal.

What Members Told Us

During October 2025, we surveyed ITAM Forum members to gauge their feedback on this move. Of those who gave their feedback:

  • 76% supported/strongly supported the move
  • 15% were neutral/unsure
  • 10% opposed/strongly opposed the move

We’ll continue to provide updates to our members about the ITAM Forum joining the Linux Foundation, including timings and how the membership experience may change and for the better.

Plans for 2026

Besides the move to the Linux Foundation, we’re working on several new and expanded activities for 2026, including new:

  • Special Interest Groups – with identified outputs – launching in January
  • In-person events schedule – including Australia
  • Industry research on topics of most important to ITAM professionals (yes, you told us those topics).

2026 will be an exciting year for the ITAM Forum. We’re thrilled that all of you will be coming along with us!

Online Tools & Services Day

Join us to explore how the right ITAM tool can transform the way your organisation tackles today’s cloud spend and FinOps challenges. If you’re frustrated with your current solution, or simply see what else is out there, this event showcases some of the latest tools in action, with no hard sell, no pressure.

So register now, bring your questions, and get ready for some insightful and interactive demonstrations.

Why attend:

Mark Bradley from Flexera will show you how to bring cloud software licensing into your ITAM practice.

Mark will show you how to get hours of time back every week and recognise immediate hard-cost savings. Flexera’s Cloud License Management surfaces daily software spend/usage from cloud bills, maps it to entitlements and cost centres, flags over/under provisioned BYOL(s), and recommends the most cost efficient license type per instance.

Robbie Plourde from USU will show you how to unlock cloud savings with better data, not bigger dashboards.

Robbie will explore how modern ITAM practices provide the data accuracy, lifecycle context, contract intelligence, and software usage visibility required to operationalise FinOps at scale. You’ll learn what ‘good FinOps data’ looks like and how to build it, why (and how) inaccurate inventories and entitlement data inflate cloud + software spend, and more.

Join us on the 15th January. Learn from experts. Discover new solutions. Get your questions answered. Stay ahead of the curve.
